Supporting HB 3016: The TREES ACT

By Sentilla Hawley February 23, 2023

We are excited to testify in support of House Bill 3016, the TREES Act (The Trees Restoring Economic and Environmental Stability Act), on Wednesday, March 1st!

This bill is more than just a piece of legislation - it's a chance for us to come together and create a brighter, more sustainable future. By improving access to green infrastructure, we can enrich our communities, our health, and our planet. But we can't do it alone. We need your voice, your passion, and your commitment to make this a reality.

We urge you to join us in supporting the TREES Act and take action that will positively impact future generations. Let's work together and create a lasting difference!

What is green infrastructure?

Community Green Infrastructure is a dynamic and innovative solution to tackle some of the most significant environmental challenges of our time. It encompasses a wide range of practices and systems that work together to enhance our communities' health and well-being while promoting sustainability and resilience. It's a win-win solution that combines the best of both worlds, creating beautiful and functional green spaces for people to enjoy while addressing critical issues like climate change, air and water pollution, and biodiversity loss.

Who benefits?

Local Communities:

It improves the quality of life in neighborhoods by providing green spaces for recreation and reducing the urban heat island effect.

The Environment:

It provides critical habitat for wildlife, helps to mitigate climate change by sequestering carbon, and reduces the impact of air pollution and other environmental hazards.

The State at Large:

Green infrastructure can save money by reducing the need for costly gray infrastructure and improving public health and safety while providing economic benefits.

Who will do the work?

You and your neighbors!

If you're passionate about making a difference and creating positive change, you could bring your ideas and expertise to life by joining a green infrastructure workforce!

How will this be funded and sustained?

HB 3016 includes a grant program for tribal governments, non-profit organizations, or faith-based communities to establish the workforce and fund green infrastructure.

How will HB 3016 continue to protect green infrastructure?

HB 3016 will direct the State Forestry Department to restore the millions of trees we've lost. This crucial step will preserve our tree canopy, which plays a vital role in mitigating climate change and supporting the health and well-being of our communities.
