Verde Energy returns with PCRI weatherization pilot

Verde is pleased to announce the return of Verde Energy, our weatherization social enterprise. Suspended in March 2013, Verde Energy returns in a new role: weatherization project developer, where we conceive, fund and implement weatherization projects in order to bring weatherization improvements to low-income households and to create contracting opportunities for minority-owned and woman-owned businesses.

Our first project in this new role is a weatherization pilot with Portland Community Reinvestment Initiatives/PCRI. Formed in 1991 in response to a housing crisis in inner North and Northeast Portland, PCRI provides 700 units of affordable housing to low-income households, helping to address historical inequalities that manifested through neighborhood disinvestment.

The pilot project provides energy-saving weatherization measures and tenant education to 17 PCRI households, funded by NW Natural and by a private family foundation.

HELP Inc, a minority-owned/woman-owned weatherization contractor, installs the weatherization measures. Please click here to read PCRI's press release about the first 10 homes to be weatherized in the pilot project...
